A Simple Guide on How To Clean Your Dog Bed

Posted on September 2, 2021 by paigepesko

We all love our dogs like family, and the same as we take care of our linens, we need to take care of our dog’s beds. There are plenty of luxury dog beds for sale, so check whether or not the bed is machine washable when you’re purchasing one. It will make your life easier when the time comes to wash it. If you’re unsure, follow these instructions on how to clean your dog bed.

Let’s Get Cleaning

Some dog beds come with removable covers, and some don’t. Today we’re going to look at both options. So, let’s get started!

Vacuum the Bed

Vacuuming the dog bed will remove any extra dog hairs, dirt, or other debris that your dog has left behind. You can go over the bed with a lint roller after vacuuming to be sure you didn’t miss anything. Wet dog hair gets stuck to everything, so it’s essential to clean the bed thoroughly.

Pro Tip

If the bed is super smelly, sprinkle it with baking soda and let it sit for an hour before you vacuum.

Dog Cover

If your particular dog bed has a removable cover, remove it and throw it straight into the washing machine. Set the washing load to large and put it on the cold water setting. Make sure you wash it separately from other loads of laundry.

Pro Tip

Check that the laundry detergent you’re using is dog-friendly. You don’t want to irritate your dog’s skin.

No Dog Cover

Use a pet-friendly spot remover if you find that the dog bed has stains. This step makes it easier for the washing machine to get the stains out. Apply the spot remover at least 10 minutes before washing the bed.

After you’ve pre-treated the stains, toss the whole bed into the washer.

Drying the Bed

Be sure to squeeze as much water from the dog bed as possible. Check the instructions on the dog bed to make sure it allows you to tumble dry it in the dryer.

We at Gorilla Dog Beds don’t recommend using a drying machine. A great option is to let the bed dry outside if it’s a sunny day. A drying rack is another suitable option for drying off the dog bed.

Between Washes

Wash your dog’s bed every other week. Doing this will prevent it from smelling and help the bed last a long time. It also helps with the health and well-being of your furry loved one.

To make laundry day for the dog bed easier, try to vacuum the bed every day to extend the life of the wash. This simple guide on how to clean your dog bed is here for reference if you need it.
